MOUNT KAZBEG

Diary of the SALEWA Mt Kazbeg Ski-Expedition
Sunday, 21st March 2010, 7.13am

Georgia - or rather Gudauri to be exact - welcomes us with a lovely sunny day. Unfortunately, Christian and Klaus had to cancel last minute, due to being sick. Consequently we are now only ten on our trip. After a short break we started right away with our first acclimatization tour: up to Sadzele (3360m), about 500 meter of ascent and 3000m descending on skies. Some tested the quality of the snow by doing awesome stunts and spectacular actions ;) This first “enjoyment day” closed with the finest samples of Georgian hospitality. With Mt Kazberg already greeting and alluring us from the distance and the weather forecast being perfect for the next two days, our guides decided to start our expedition earlier: we are going to ascent the weather station already today and go about Mt Kazberg tomorrow.
At the moment everyone is sitting rather sleepily in the bus, but we’ll be leaving in about 40 min!!!

Love from Georgia!

Preliminary report: Though starting disgustingly early, everyone reached the weather station more or less in good spirits. We enjoy the last beams of sunlight, for our accommodation rather resembles a freezer. Tomorrow we’ll start with the ascent of Mt Kazbeg!

Best wishes and have a nice Sunday,
