SALEWA picks are produced in three different sizes (50/60/70 cm) so suit the user, and two different types, distinguished by their strength:
Type B: Standard (basic) pick, marked with the letter B; these picks are designed for use where no great strength is required, namely where with a length o 50 cm the pick handle has a bend resistance of 2.5 N.
Type T: Specialist (technical pick), marked with the letter T; this pick is for use in extreme mountaineering and has greater strength than the basic pick, namely where with a length of 50 cm the pick handle has a bend resistance of 3.5 kN.
Tips on picks:
Trekking, mountaineering, glacier and ski tours all involve a risk of injury and in extreme cases death. The right equipment and its correct use reduce that risk, preventing injuries. So check every time before you use it that a product is undamaged and that all the parts function without problem. If there is any doubt as to the safety of a product then it should not be used and a specialist should have a look at it. Attention: Do not use the picks Zenith Speed, Speed Axe, Anatomic and Freney for waterfall climbing and extreme mountaineering.Sicherheitsreflektoren für den sicheren Alltag.
Care, storage and lifespan:
This product should be cleaned and cared for as follows, so that it functions properly on a lasting basis:
*
Cleaning: When it is dirty only wash it with a neutral cleaning substance and clean water (maximum 20°). Leave to dry at room temperature.
*
Care: Always check before and after use that the pick is in faultless condition. Always replace the pick if it has been subject to severe demands or you are not sure of its faultless condition. In particular check for wear on the tip, the ferrule and the loop. If the tip or ferrule is worn, they must be ground with a file. Do not use any mechanical grinding wheel, because the heat generated can adversely affect the characteristics of the material and thus cause the tip to break. - Storage: After cleaning, store unpacked in a dry, cool room that is not too light. Do not allow the crampon to come into contact with chemicals, moisture, strong heat, sharp objects or intensive UV rays!
*
Lifespan: This very much depends upon the type of care and the frequency of use. With normal care and use one can count on approximately five years, but with intensive use three years. In order to keep it functioning properly for as long as possible, the following should be avoided: improper use, falling from a great height, contact with chemicals, salt water, severe heat (in a car parked in the sun!), wear or corrosion. If the pick suffers severe impact or is used to prevent a dangerous fall, it should no longer be used, even if no defect or damage is detected: in such instances its strength can be compromised.
