Michi Wärthl

Německo
Born: 1970
Tým: Alpinism

Michi is one of Germany’s most successful all-round mountaineers. He was the youngest mountaineer ever to stand on top of the K2 (8,611 metres above sea level). He is a mountain guide and member of the national coaching team for mountain and ski guides in the German Alpine Club. When Michi Wärthl does something, he does it right. Since his successful K2 expedition in 1994, he has belonged to the elite professional mountaineering camp. Over the course of his remarkable career, he has many very difficult first ascents such as the “Vogelfrei” route on the south face of the Schüsselkar (13 SL, 10/10+). In 2002 he achieved the forth ascent of the Gurla Mandata (7,694 metres) and reached the peak of the Ama Dablam (6,856 m). One year later he was the first mountain guide to take a client successfully through the “Supercanaleta“ on Cerro Fitz Roy (3,405 m) in Patagonia. In the same year he achieved a first repeat of the „La vida es silbar“ route (28 SL, 9/9+) on the Eiger north face. He lives with his wife and two sons south of Munich. But he is usually to be found on the steep rock faces of the world, always on the look-out for a new challenge. We wish him every success on his ventures.
